Tropical islands : Reunion Indian OceanReunion, a wildly tropical island with spectacular scenery, is an overseas département of France, located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, about 240 km southwest of Mauritius. Réunion is also part of the European Union. In 2010, its National Park won UNESCO's World Heritage status.
The Grand Brule is formed from solidified lava flows accumulated over hundreds of thousands of years; the most recent ones are often the darkest and most vegetation-free, while older ones can be covered by dense wild vegetation.
